For more than 50 years, HPFI® (High Point Furniture Industries) has been building furniture in the United States with respect to our environment and our community. As a world-class manufacturing operation, we strive to reduce and to eliminate impact on our environment. We recycle and reuse wherever possible. All HPFI products have been certified to level® 2 by SCS Global Services. level®, BIFMA‘s sustainability certification program for furniture, helps us to to quantify environmental achievements and emissions as well as identify specific contributions of LEED points.
HPFI has a long-standing environmental practice. Our Environmental Statement has been posted online at www.hpfi.com for the past five years, but has been in practice for decades prior. In early 2010, HPFI assembled a “Green” team to address the need for a certification to a sustainability standard. It was at that time that we elected to pursue level certification, a comprehensive and transparent third-party certification program. The level mark attests that the product, the manufacturing facility and the company responsible for the product brand have been evaluated against the multi-attribute criteria of the ANSI/BIFMA e3 Furniture Sustainability Standard. The e3 standard is very similar to the widely recognizable LEED program for the built environment.
Our Green teams have met on a weekly basis to assess, document, update and continually improve our progress utilizing the e3 Furniture Sustainability Standard. Included in this documentation is a thorough assessment and reduction goals (10% annually) of greenhouse gas emissions (GHG.) All seating, laminate casegoods and tables to meet the BIFMA 7.1-2011 Furniture Emissions Standard with MAS Test of Atlanta. This successful testing also earns the “ MAS Green” leaf certification and contribute 1 point to the LEED IEQ Credit 4.5.
Our sustainability efforts extend beyond the materials and processes involved in the manufacture and fabrication of our products. We also address end-of-life opportunities for our furniture. Additionally, our efforts involve social responsibility with HPFI internal associates and our business partners. For additional information and details, click on the links below.
